The useful bits

  • Keep company revenue, advertiser performance and publisher traffic separate.
  • Treat management outlooks and strategic claims as attributed forecasts.

Different businesses and different measures

Ronan Shields’ 6 November comparison reports AppLovin revenue up 55% and Magnite up 14%, alongside declines at several open-web intermediaries. Total revenue, contribution excluding traffic-acquisition costs and profit are different measures; the percentages do not form a like-for-like ranking.

Read the underlying reports

James Hercher reports AppLovin’s non-gaming advertiser growth from an undisclosed base. Luis Rijo covers Taboola’s Yahoo mediation, Apple’s unquantified advertising record and JCDecaux’s programmatic growth. Allison Schiff reports Fox’s World Cup, political and Tubi effects; Anthony Vargas reports People Inc.’s loss of Google referrals and pursuit of revenue beyond site visits.

Use the context without turning it into a media recommendation

Company growth is not an advertiser return. Check the reported period, revenue definition and management forecasts before using a number in a client briefing. Fox’s fiscal quarter is not labelled as the same fiscal quarter as every other company. The coverage supports market context, not a prediction that consolidation or a budget shift must follow.
