Is ChatGPT Ads Worth It? What Early Testing Reveals

PPC LivePMC interpretation

ChatGPT ad copy: a click-through test without a revenue verdict

Context
One advertiser’s early ChatGPT Ads account, alongside a separate prompt-monitoring dataset in July 2026.
Method
The publisher describes a comparison of conversational and keyword-style ad copy. The monitoring sample is separate from the account test.
Finding & limits
Conversational copy had the higher reported click-through rate. The example does not establish incremental revenue or a repeatable return for another account.
PMC testing prompt: apply the lesson

Use this as a prompt for a small, pre-agreed copy comparison. Decide how qualified visits or sales will be recorded before moving budget; a stronger click-through rate can still produce weaker commercial outcomes.

Ask your team: What downstream outcome would make a copy test worth continuing?

Google ends its bid suppression era: What it means for your ROAS

Budget constraints: separating a bidding change from a ROAS conclusion

Context
smec campaign observations around Google’s August 2026 bidding change.
Method
Compare budget-constrained and unconstrained campaigns, then examine CPCs and impression-share losses. This was not a randomized experiment.
Finding & limits
The groups moved differently. Conversion attribution was incomplete at publication, so the observations were not a final ROAS verdict.
PMC testing prompt: apply the lesson

Build a dated account-change log before comparing periods. Keep conversion lag and target changes visible so a pattern in auction costs does not become an unsupported instruction to raise budgets.

Ask your team: Could conversion lag, seasonality or target changes explain your own account’s movement?

Marketing’s upper middle embraces AI creative production

AI creative at scale: a workflow case study, not a lift experiment

Context
Reported creative-production practices at Wyndham, Opella and BetMGM.
Method
Publisher reporting compares the companies’ use of AI, human approval and restrictions on generated assets.
Finding & limits
The examples describe different production guardrails. Company-reported output and traffic figures do not establish that AI caused better advertising performance.
PMC testing prompt: apply the lesson

Map the approval path for one asset type before increasing output. A useful pilot records rejected assets, review effort and downstream quality as well as production speed.

Ask your team: Which assets need human production or approval before your team scales creative?

Advertisers Still Make 1 in 10 Google Ads Changes by Hand: Findings From 72,358 Accounts

OptmyzrPMC interpretation

Manual PPC work: count interruptions before estimating automation savings

Context
Optmyzr change histories from 72,358 Google Ads accounts, covering February to July 2026.
Method
The publisher groups changes by access method and sessions. A separate informal network poll explores attitudes; it is not part of the account-log sample.
Finding & limits
Manual work represents a different share of sessions than of individual edits. The sample is vendor-specific, and estimated time or cost savings are not observed treatment effects.
PMC testing prompt: apply the lesson

Log a week of repeated tasks in your own team. Compare time spent, correction effort and error rates for a limited pilot; do not turn the vendor’s hours estimate into your own forecast.

Ask your team: Which repeatable task could you pilot with a review step and a reliable way to undo mistakes?

BFCM bidding: compare the build-up, sale and recovery separately

Context
A vendor panel of more than 4,200 Google Ads accounts and 22,800 campaigns across the previous holiday season.
Method
Optmyzr compares campaign metrics before, during and after the sale, alongside strategy and network breakdowns. Accounts were not randomly assigned to bidding strategies.
Finding & limits
Click costs and conversion behaviour varied across sale phases. Strategy differences may reflect account selection, tracking and product economics, so the report is not a causal ranking of bidding methods.
PMC testing prompt: apply the lesson

Draft a margin-aware review for each sale phase using your own conversion values and stock constraints. Treat the panel as a reason to investigate a pattern, not a target ROAS to copy.

Ask your team: What would change your plan after the sale if costs stayed high while demand fell?

Broad Match Works. But Is That Really Enough?

The SEM DispatchPMC interpretation

Similar CPAs, different intent: inspect the search-term groups

Context
One anonymised financial-services account described by Dez Calton. The compared campaigns used exact match.
Method
Compare groups containing the same search modifier across broader and more specific vehicle campaigns, looking at click cost, conversion rate and CPA together.
Finding & limits
Different click prices offset different conversion rates. The example reveals a diagnostic blind spot in a campaign average; it does not test whether broad match or a new structure would perform better.
PMC testing prompt: apply the lesson

Group relevant queries by intent and product context. Add qualified-lead or revenue outcomes before changing exclusions or bidding targets; one modifier is not a universal negative-keyword rule.

Ask your team: Which apparently similar CPAs conceal different downstream lead quality?

McFIT: test upper-funnel investment against completed memberships

Context
TikTok’s June 2026 case study describes a German fitness campaign undertaken in 2025, with performance and upper-funnel activity.
Method
The publisher describes a Unified Lift Study covering brand and conversion outcomes alongside Smart+, retargeting and reach formats.
Finding & limits
TikTok reports gains in recall and completed payments. The public write-up does not disclose sample sizes, confidence intervals or enough allocation detail to reproduce the comparison. It does not isolate the effect of each creative or format.
PMC testing prompt: apply the lesson

Predefine the added media, holdout design and membership-quality outcome. Assess incremental contribution after media cost; do not copy the case’s budget split or assume its reported lifts will transfer.

Ask your team: What completed business outcome would justify adding an upper-funnel layer?

AutoScout24: measure useful app behaviour beyond the install

Context
A German app-install campaign, published by TikTok in June 2026, assessed brand and conversion outcomes together.
Method
A Unified Lift Study accompanied existing App Install campaigns using In-Feed and Spark Ads. The advertiser did not add a dedicated branding activation.
Finding & limits
The publisher reports additional installs, in-app searches and ad recall. The summary omits sample sizes and confidence intervals; it does not identify which creative caused the result or establish long-term customer value.
PMC testing prompt: apply the lesson

Select one downstream event before testing acquisition media. Align event definitions across the app and measurement partner, then separate install lift, engagement lift and eventual revenue in the readout.

Ask your team: Does an extra install turn into a useful search or another meaningful in-app action?

OTTO and Samsung: separate retail-media brand lift from sales proof

Context
TikTok’s September 2026 retailer-and-brand launch case combines creator content with pre-order and sales phases in Germany.
Method
The publisher describes a phased In-Feed and Smart+ campaign evaluated with a Brand Lift Study.
Finding & limits
Reported recall, awareness and favourability gains address brand outcomes. Reach and impressions establish delivery scale, not incremental purchases. Sample sizes, confidence intervals and a sales-lift comparison are not provided in the public summary.
PMC testing prompt: apply the lesson

Agree separate brand and transaction measures before a joint campaign. Record phase timing, retailer attribution and what the brand study can answer; use an appropriate separate design before claiming incremental retail sales.

Ask your team: Which outcome belongs to the retailer, the brand and the shared launch objective?

PMC READING FRAMEWORK

How to read a PPC case study before copying the tactic

Start with the decision you need to make. A creative comparison asks which message performs better under the test conditions. An incrementality study asks what additional outcomes advertising caused. A workflow case study asks how a team organised its work. Those questions need different evidence.

What each evidence label tells you

A short brief for your next paid media experiment

  1. Decision: Write what you will do differently if the result supports your hypothesis.
  2. Comparison: Name the change, the comparison group and any differences you cannot control.
  3. Outcome: Choose the primary business metric and a guardrail before starting. Clicks can diagnose a response without proving profitable growth.
  4. Readout: Agree the test window, conversion-lag allowance and how to report uncertainty. An inconclusive result belongs in the record too.

This is PMC’s editorial planning framework, not a claim that we ran or independently reproduced the studies in this collection. Google’s experiment guidance supports a clear hypothesis, a limited set of success metrics and retained test records. Its Conversion Lift documentation distinguishes incremental outcomes from attributed conversions.
