Amazon packages its Alexa for Shopping engine for rival retailers
Amazon has begun selling its conversational shopping assistant technology to retailers it competes with, as Roger Dunn has flagged. The announcement is the AWS Agentic Shopping Assistant (ASA), built by the AWS Generative AI Innovation Centre, which packages the architecture, starter code, and lessons learned from Amazon's own Alexa for Shopping: recently rebranded from Rufus: for external retailers.

What changed
Kate Spade New York is the first live partner.
Roger frames the significance directly: Amazon spent years and an estimated $12bn in incremental sales teaching a machine to shop alongside people, and is now offering that same engine as a starter kit. Amazon cites conversational shopping converting substantially better than search, which makes the decision to license the capability notable.
Why it matters for advertisers
For you, this means retailers outside Amazon now have a credible path to deploy Amazon-grade conversational shopping on their own properties. Worth scoping for larger retailers, whether ASA accelerates an agentic-commerce roadmap that would otherwise take years to build in-house.
