Google ships a free, fully local AI voice dictation app
Google has released Google AI Edge Eloquent, a free and fully open-source voice dictation app that runs on-device locally using the Gemma 4 12B model, flagged by Shubham Saboo. Unlike the paid dictation tools it competes with, it processes audio on the device so voice data never leaves it, and it offers real-time transcription that strips filler words and fixes mid-sentence restarts, plus a personal vocabulary dictionary that can learn project names and jargon.

What changed
An optional hybrid mode calls Gemini in the cloud for extra polish, but the local path is the full experience rather than a stripped-down free tier, with no subscription, usage cap, or paywall on the offline models. It is a notable move in a category where the best tools have typically charged a monthly fee and sent audio to the cloud.
Why it matters for advertisers
For you, this means practitioners who dictate briefs, notes, or copy gain a no-cost, privacy-preserving option that keeps audio on-device. Worth trialling for client work where sending voice data to a third-party cloud service would raise confidentiality concerns.
