Meta overhauls creative media selection interface for ad placements

Written by Paid Media Collective
IN BRIEF

Bram Van der Hallen has identified a significant change to how Meta handles creative media selection for ad placements. Previously, advertisers chose the correct media crop for each placement during upload.

What changed

In the updated interface, advertisers upload multiple creatives in different aspect ratios and then customise placement assignments: including setting different crops, text, and destinations per asset, and excluding specific placements: via a "Customise media" panel. Meta will automatically select and crop media for any placements not manually customised. The update also introduces "Related media" suggestions that appear automatically when uploading new creative: these should be reviewed and removed if not intentional.

THE COLLECTIVE PERSPECTIVE

Why it matters for advertisers

For you, this means reviewing the new interface workflow before your next campaign build: in particular, setting up explicit placement exclusions (e.g., excluding vertical placements from 4:5 feed assets) now requires navigating the Customise media panel rather than the upload step.
