OpenAI releases GPT-5.4 mini and nano for high-volume workloads

Written by Paid Media Collective
IN BRIEF

OpenAI has launched GPT-5.4 mini and nano, two smaller models designed to bring GPT-5.4 capabilities to faster, cheaper, and higher-volume use cases. GPT-5.4 mini is described as more than 2x faster than GPT-5 mini while approaching full GPT-5.4 performance on several coding benchmarks, including SWE-Bench Pro and OSWorld-Verified.

What changed

GPT-5.4 nano is optimised for the cheapest, fastest tasks: classification, data extraction, ranking, and simpler coding sub-agent work.

GPT-5.4 mini is available in the API, Codex, and ChatGPT. In Codex, it consumes only 30% of the GPT-5.4 quota, enabling developers to delegate lower-complexity tasks to the smaller model at roughly one-third the cost. In ChatGPT, it is available to Free and Go users via the Thinking feature and as a rate limit fallback for other subscribers. GPT-5.4 nano is API-only, priced at $0.20 per million input tokens and $1.25 per million output tokens.

THE COLLECTIVE PERSPECTIVE

Why it matters for advertisers

For you, this means cost-efficient AI automation is becoming more accessible: GPT-5.4 mini is a strong candidate for marketing automation pipelines, reporting tasks, and agent sub-tasks where full GPT-5.4 capability is not required.
