Shopify Rollouts schedule catalogue changes for a set date and time

Written by Paid Media Collective
IN BRIEF

Shopify's changelog adds Rollouts, which schedule the activation, deactivation or switching of catalogues, so market-specific pricing and availability can change at a set moment, and let merchants test offers between catalogues and launch them together with theme and checkout changes. Plan and market availability are not stated. For you, this means Black Friday pricing can be staged in advance rather than edited live, so align the rollout time with your ad schedule.

What changed

What this means in practice

Catalogue scheduling can reduce the need for manual changes at a launch deadline, but the announcement should not be read as a promise that every connected advertising system updates at the same instant. Storefront availability, feed processing and the start of a paid campaign are separate steps that need to be coordinated.

For a planned sale, prepare the catalogue change, the intended activation time and the matching offer communication together. Check the relevant time zone, market and product selection. Preview the prices and availability that customers should receive, and identify who can pause or reverse a rollout if the offer is wrong.

After activation, verify the live storefront and the downstream product destinations used by ads. A successful schedule does not guarantee that every external feed or cached ad has refreshed. This release concerns catalogue changes; it should remain distinct from earlier Rollouts coverage focused only on themes. The changelog does not specify every plan's eligibility, so confirm availability in the merchant's own account before relying on it for a time-sensitive launch.

The release date is 23 October, while the date of a merchant’s own catalogue activation is a separate choice. Record both in implementation notes. For a promotion spanning multiple markets, review the intended local timing and the products affected in each catalogue before turning a scheduled change into a public offer.
