Snapchat opens Third-Party Web Optimization beta
Snap announced Third-Party Web Optimization in open beta on 10 September. It combines first- and third-party signals to optimize toward third-party purchase outcomes.

What changed
For a team that already evaluates channels through an external measurement system, the opportunity is to investigate whether the optimization objective better matches its reporting process. Our recommendation is to write down the purchase definition, time window and reporting delay before the test. The same label in two interfaces should not be assumed to mean that their underlying outcomes are identical.
An illustrative retailer might see an order in its commerce platform immediately, while a later report assigns it to a marketing channel. If those views update at different times, a daily comparison can show disagreement even without a new campaign problem. Establish when the team considers a reporting period sufficiently complete, and distinguish provisional monitoring from a settled performance review.
A closer relationship between bidding and a measurement system can improve operational consistency, but agreement between reports is not itself evidence that advertising created additional demand. Keep that question separate. If the proposed investment needs an incremental-sales answer, decide what other evidence would be needed rather than expecting attribution alignment to supply it.
Why it matters for advertisers
The useful test asks whether the chosen outcome supports better business decisions. Examine purchase quality and the consistency of the reporting process, alongside campaign results. Document changes to the external system during the test because a revised attribution setting can change the numbers used for evaluation. These recommendations describe how to assess the opportunity; they do not add undocumented product controls to Snap's announcement.
What to check next
- Confirm access and the supported measurement connection in the actual advertiser account.
- Record outcome definitions, reporting delays and the settings used for the comparison.
- Separate improved reporting agreement from evidence of incremental sales when reviewing results.
