Walmart Connect is pitching on-site brand lift studies directly to brands
Digiday reports Walmart's sales team contacting brand clients directly ahead of the holidays to offer on-site brand lift studies allocated by Walmart Connect spend, with results that can take up to nine weeks; advertisers still cannot run such studies independently, and Walmart did not comment. One agency source says Q4 is when advertisers are least willing to fund spend they cannot defend. Lift studies remain a negotiating chip tied to commitment, so ask for one in writing before agreeing holiday budgets.

What changed
What this means in practice
This is reporting about how studies are being offered and negotiated, not an announcement that every advertiser can self-serve a Walmart brand-lift study. The distinction matters when a team is deciding whether a measurement promise belongs in a committed holiday plan. Availability, study design and timing need to be agreed for the particular campaign.
Before treating a study as a benefit of additional spend, request the eligibility conditions, minimum investment, fieldwork period, reporting timetable and the questions it will answer. Determine whether the proposed design can distinguish incremental brand outcomes from the people who would already have purchased. A delayed readout may be useful for future planning without being useful for in-flight optimisation.
Compare the offered measurement with the campaign's actual decision needs. A brand-lift result and a sales-attribution report answer different questions. Keep the reporting's anonymous agency perspective clearly attributed and avoid turning a sales proposal into a universal product specification. The article supplies evidence of a commercial approach; the contract and study protocol still determine what a participating advertiser receives.
The timing of the readout is particularly relevant for a holiday programme. Decide which choices can still change when results arrive, and which decisions the findings will instead inform next year. Request a written scope so the research questions, delivery dates and interpretation are agreed before the study begins.
