European Parliament approves amendments to the AI Act

The European Parliament has approved proposed amendments to the AI Act, flagged by Luiza Jarovsky. The changes adjust the timeline for high-risk AI obligations: applying from 2 December 2027 for systems listed in Annex III and from 2 August 2028 for those embedded as safety components under EU sectoral legislation: and set AI-generated content labelling obligations from 2 December 2026.

Trump signs an AI executive order with a voluntary frontier-model framework

President Trump has signed an executive order, "Promoting Advanced Artificial Intelligence Innovation and Security," which establishes a voluntary framework for AI developers to engage with the federal government before releasing advanced models, as flagged by Luiza Jarovsky. Federal agencies are directed to design the framework by 1 August 2026.

Greece bans social media for under-15s, effective January 2027

Luiza Jarovsky has reported that Greece has announced it will ban social media access for users under 15, effective January 2027, following Australia's under-16 ban. Greek Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis cited rising anxiety, sleep disruption, and addictive platform design as the primary drivers, and explicitly stated Greece intends to push the EU to adopt a similar framework across member states.
