AI Brief launches as the new way to steer AI Max in your own words
AI Brief is the structural new layer in AI Max that lets advertisers steer Gemini's targeting and creative customisation through natural-language guidelines: Messaging Guidelines (what your ads should and shouldn't say, e.g., "never mention prices" or "focus on my fall collection"), Matching Guidelines (which searches to capture or avoid, e.g., "avoid searches for in-person degrees"), and Audience Guidelines (how to tailor messaging for different segments, e.g., "for people who are health conscious, highlight our clean products"). The interface previews sample assets and searches; advertisers iterate the brief until the previewed output matches the intended direction.

What changed
The launch matters because AI Brief replaces the existing text-guidelines workflow with a more expressive interface. Existing text guidelines will automatically migrate as messaging guidelines once AI Brief lands in the account. The rollout starts in AI Max for Search Campaigns in English, with Performance Max and AI Max for Shopping support arriving over the coming months, and more languages to follow.
Why it matters for advertisers
For you, this means existing text-guidelines documents need to be re-evaluated against the broader AI Brief framework: particularly the matching and audience dimensions that didn't exist in the old guidelines layer. Worth setting up the AI Brief in a pilot account first, comparing sample previews against expected ad outputs, and using that calibration to brief client-facing teams. Regulated verticals where messaging boundaries matter (finance, pharma, legal, healthcare) gain a sanctioned way to encode compliance language alongside performance steering. Availability: Global, English (more languages to follow).
