Amazon Discover Unmet Demand opens in Product Opportunity Explorer with caveats

Written by Paid Media Collective
IN BRIEF

Amazon has added Discover Unmet Demand to Product Opportunity Explorer in beta. The tool surfaces purchase intent clusters where Search Conversion Rate falls below the benchmark for that product type and price band: framed as market gaps.

What changed

Vanessa Hung has flagged a meaningful caveat: the cluster aggregates hundreds of semantically related search terms with very different buyer intent, and the benchmark averages purchase behaviour across all of them. A search for "dress" and a search for "linen midi dress for wedding guest" both land in the same cluster. A cluster headline of low conversion can mask high-intent terms inside the cluster that convert strongly, and a high-intent cluster can conceal low-intent search noise.

THE COLLECTIVE PERSPECTIVE

Why it matters for advertisers

For you, this means treating "unmet demand" as a starting question, not an answer. Drill into keyword-level Purchase Rate, Click Rate, and Click Count Growth Rate before launching against a cluster. The structural opportunity is real; the cluster average is not where it lives.
