Amazon seller notice introduces prepaid return-label requirements

Written by Paid Media Collective
IN BRIEF

A seller notice describes prepaid labels for US seller-fulfilled returns from 18 December, with a temporary exception for heavy and bulky items. Sellers would have seven calendar days to upload a label through Manage Returns or issue a refund without requiring the item back; an address-only label would no longer satisfy the requirement. Review the notice in Seller Central and the return workflow. Supplying a prepaid label does not, by itself, settle who ultimately bears its cost under every return circumstance.

Earlier coverage and context (2026-10-20)

A seller-shared notice attributed to Amazon describes a prepaid-label requirement for US seller-fulfilled returns starting on 18 December 2026, with a temporary exception for heavy and bulky items. The text appears in a public Seller Forums discussion and in practitioner coverage shared by Vita K. and Ivan Marynych. It is being reported here as a reproduced notice, not an independently authenticated policy announcement.

The notice gives sellers seven calendar days to upload a prepaid label through Manage Returns or issue a refund without requiring the item back. It says a missed deadline may lead to an automatic returnless refund and that labels sent through Buyer-Seller Messaging do not meet the described workflow requirement. The image shared by Marynych reproduces a forum post bearing the display name Hubbubit; the current public page uses a seller identifier. Their identity mapping and first-reporting priority are unresolved.

The distinction between providing a prepaid label and bearing every return cost is important. This evidence does not settle who ultimately pays in every return scenario, and the article does not infer a universal seller-funded shipping rule from the label requirement.

PMC's suggested preparation is to review who monitors return requests, how the team supplies labels and what happens during staff absence. Compare the reported process with the notice actually received in the seller account. A date in a shared email is a prompt to verify account applicability, rather than proof that every seller has received identical instructions.

For commercial planning, model different outcomes separately: a returned item with recoverable value, a returnless refund, and a refund following a missed response. Those scenarios can affect margin differently. They should be assessed against the seller's own policy obligations and costs, not an assumption that one social post resolves all exceptions.
