ChatGPT shopping observation highlights a retailer button and offer-comparison concerns
Juozas Kaziukėnas shared a ChatGPT shopping observation in which product recommendations include a direct retailer link alongside the product title. His inspected screenshot shows coffee makers with prices and prominent links to selected merchants. He describes the arrangement as a buy box and reports that other offers can be reached through the product details.

What changed
His account also raises concerns about price comparison and product-variant matching. Those concerns should stay attributed to his examples. The screenshot does not establish how ChatGPT chooses merchants across all queries, whether feeds always receive preference, or whether the same layout is available to every user. No universal rollout or retailer-selection rule is claimed here.
The distinction matters for commerce teams because a short path to one merchant and a longer path to alternative offers create different user journeys. However, the existence of a prominent link does not itself prove a change in clicks, sales or paid-ad performance. This observation concerns shopping results; the supplied image does not identify the featured listings as sponsored ads.
PMC's suggested investigation is to test a small set of exact products and variants, recording the prompt, date, displayed price and destination. Check the retailer page rather than assuming that a visible price refers to the same model, size or configuration. Keep screenshots of the product card and the alternative-offers view together so later comparisons remain meaningful.
For reporting, separate what is visible from what is inferred. A selected merchant button is directly observable. A claim that a particular data-feed arrangement caused the selection needs additional evidence. Avoid changing a feed strategy solely on the basis of one example, especially where the underlying variant match is disputed.
