Demand-led budget pacing, Smart Bidding Exploration, and Campaign total budgets land in Search
Three Search-side budget and bidding upgrades land alongside the AI Max GA. Demand-led budget pacing uses Google AI to optimise spend toward consumer demand peaks: capturing more volume on high-demand days and reducing spend on slow days, while respecting daily and monthly limits.

What changed
Coming soon globally.
Smart Bidding Exploration is expanding from Search to Shopping (and soon Performance Max), allowing Target ROAS bidding to reach unique converting query categories within existing targeting. Google's internal data shows +27% more unique converting users on average for Search campaigns using the feature (Google internal data, Global, Search text ads, Jan 1 – Feb 20, 2026).
Campaign total budgets are now generally available globally: a fixed total budget with a specific start and end date as an alternative to daily budgets. Google's internal data shows advertisers using total budgets saw a 66% average reduction in manual budget adjustments compared to daily budgets (Google internal data, comparing daily budgets in January 2026 to campaign total budgets from August 2025 to March 2026), with the format particularly suited to flash sales, product launches, and seasonal events.
Why it matters for advertisers
For you, this means seasonal advertisers, flash-sale-heavy ecommerce, and accounts where budget pacing has been a manual workflow should evaluate the three updates together. Worth running campaign total budgets on a defined-window promotion before adopting across the broader account.
