Google opens a phased Connected Apps Platform preview
Google opened a preview of its Connected Apps Platform on 28 October 2026. The announcement is signed by Chips Mistry, Group Product Manager for Search, and Mai Lowe, Group Product Manager for the Gemini app.

What changed
Developers can connect services through a cloud-hosted MCP server or Android MCP using AppFunctions APIs, then register, test and submit the app through Google Connected Console. They choose Search, Gemini or both before review. Google says access will expand in phases across developers, markets and products.
Once an app is live, the console provides traffic, latency and error-rate monitoring alongside brand identity controls. The announcement also describes more than 50 connected apps across Search and Gemini, with some partner integrations reaching Search later. It does not establish that every developer or integration is available everywhere today.
Why this matters
For a business offering a useful service, this creates a potential route from a search or assistant interaction into an action. It is a platform-access development, rather than a new ad-buying control or a promise of better organic rankings. Evaluate the actual actions an app can complete and the approval requirements before planning distribution around it.
This article covers the developer-platform preview, distinct from earlier consumer app connections and the AI Mode personal-intelligence advertising test. Marie Haynes’s commentary helped surface the development; the signed Google authors receive the original-announcement credit.
For implementation planning, separate the connection method from the destination where the app appears. A working MCP server is only one part of the process: registration, testing and review still matter. The console's operational metrics can help teams identify slow or failing actions after access is approved, while phased access means a launch plan should be tied to confirmed eligibility.
