LinkedIn Ads · Status at source date: Upcoming API change

LinkedIn sets December deadline for publisher-list placement types

Written by Paid Media Collective
IN BRIEF

LinkedIn’s October API notes announce placement types for publisher lists from version 202611. An additional rule takes effect across API versions after 15 December 2026, so changing the version header alone will not complete the migration.

What changed

Two stages to the publisher-list change

From Marketing API version 202611, creating a publisher list requires a valid surface field: LAN for LinkedIn Audience Network or CTV for Connected TV. Requests without it return a 400 error.

LinkedIn gives existing partner API accounts until 15 December 2026 to migrate. After that date, campaign and account trust-preference requests can use only publisher lists matching the campaign’s placement type. Mismatched requests fail across API versions. Lists already attached to campaigns keep working.

That distinction matters for maintenance: an existing campaign continuing to run does not prove the integration can attach the same list to another campaign later. PMC recommends reviewing list creation and list-assignment workflows separately with the developer or platform supplier.

Review versioning and placement together

LinkedIn’s versioning documentation requires an explicit Linkedin-Version header. It identifies 202610 as the current October release; the publisher-list requirement is announced for the later 202611 version. The notes show only an October release month, not a verified publication day.

For an agency using a third-party campaign tool, the practical next step is to confirm who owns the migration and how placement mismatches will be handled. Record which workflows create lists, which attach them and which maintain account trust preferences. Arrange a scoped validation before the deadline rather than assuming a reporting connector is responsible for campaign-management requests.

PMC has checked the public documentation. No publisher lists, advertising accounts or live API requests were inspected or changed, and this article does not certify any partner’s compatibility.

THE COLLECTIVE PERSPECTIVE

Why it matters for advertisers

The deadline concerns the placement associated with a publisher list as well as API versioning. Teams should confirm the supplier’s migration plan before a future list-assignment request is rejected.

What to check next

  • Identify systems that create or attach LinkedIn publisher lists.
  • Confirm LAN and CTV placement handling with the integration owner.
  • Plan validation before 15 December; keep already-attached lists distinct from new assignment requests.
