Microsoft documents Target and bid for LinkedIn audiences
Microsoft Advertising’s current LinkedIn profile-targeting documentation describes a Target and bid option for Audience campaigns. Hana Kobzová is credited by PPC News Feed for spotting the guidance in coverage dated 27 October 2026.

What changed
LinkedIn audiences can be defined by company, industry or job function. In an Audience campaign, Target and bid restricts delivery to the selected audience. Bid only changes bidding without making that audience a requirement for delivery. That distinction matters when assessing why a campaign’s reach changes after an audience setting is edited.
Microsoft’s guidance keeps Search, Dynamic Search Ads and Shopping campaigns on Bid only. The Audience campaign restriction behaviour should therefore not be assumed to apply to those campaign types or to Performance Max.
What advertisers should check
Review the actual targeting mode alongside the audience selection. A list of job functions or companies does not, by itself, tell a colleague whether the campaign is limited to that group. Record the mode in campaign documentation so that reporting and optimisation discussions start from the same assumption.
Before narrowing delivery, check that the selected professional categories fit the intended buyers and that the available reach is sufficient for the campaign’s purpose. After a change, compare delivery volume and business outcomes over a suitable period. A more restricted audience can alter the traffic mix without necessarily improving lead quality.
Keep campaign types separate when auditing settings. Copying an interpretation from an Audience campaign into a Search campaign can lead to an incorrect explanation of who is eligible to see the ads.
