Shopify launches Agentic Storefronts for ChatGPT as default sales channel
Shopify has announced that Agentic Storefronts: a new sales channel that enables merchants to sell directly to ChatGPT users: is now active by default for eligible stores. Products synchronise in real time across surfaces, with live inventory and pricing, and, if checkout is enabled, customers can purchase without leaving the chat.

What changed
The launch arrives in the same week that Walmart disclosed its in-chat checkout with ChatGPT, which converted at one-third the rate of click-out transactions: a tension Aleyda Solís flagged directly: the infrastructure is advancing faster than the conversion evidence supports it.
Why it matters for advertisers
For you, this means checking whether Agentic Storefronts are enabled in your Shopify admin and deliberately deciding whether checkout activation aligns with your current conversion strategy: the feature is on by default, but current data suggests that owned landing page experiences still outperform in-chat purchasing.
