Threads ads are loosening their dependency on Instagram identity
Social Media Today reports Meta’s move to allow advertisers to run Threads activity without the previous Instagram identity dependency. Check the identity and permissions offered in your account before changing an established setup.

What changed
The reporting describes an access change, not a new performance advantage; related business permissions belong in the same operational review.
Confirm which profile and account connection the setup requires for the advertiser concerned. Review the identity customers will see, destination consistency and comment-handling responsibilities. If the option is available, evaluate Threads within a defined test rather than assuming that a simpler setup changes the expected return.
Identity and placement are related but separate decisions. An advertiser still needs to understand which business name, profile information and public presence accompany the ad, even when an Instagram account is no longer required in the same way. A reduction in setup dependencies should not leave the customer uncertain about who is advertising or where to seek help after clicking.
For an initial review, compare the identity shown in the ad with the destination and the business’s Threads presence. Confirm who can administer the relevant account and respond to any customer interaction. Evaluate creative in the actual placement rather than assuming an Instagram asset carries the same meaning unchanged. Record the account-specific access conditions, because a gradual rollout can create different setup paths across advertisers and make a broadly worded launch statement misleading.
Why it matters for advertisers
Separating Threads advertising from an Instagram identity could reduce account-setup friction. It does not remove the need for a credible advertiser identity or for creative that fits the placement and its audience.
