AWS UAE data centre hit amid Iran strikes, mec1-az2 offline
Amazon Web Services reported that one of its UAE Availability Zones (mec1-az2) in the ME-CENTRAL-1 region went offline after "objects struck the data centre, creating sparks and fire." The fire department shut off power while extinguishing the fire, with AWS stating restoration will take several hours.

What changed
Other AZs in the region are functioning normally. AWS did not confirm or deny whether the incident was connected to Iran's retaliatory missile and drone strikes on the UAE following US and Israeli attacks on Iran. Iran's Ministry of Defence reported firing 137 missiles and 209 drones across the UAE on Saturday.
Why it matters for advertisers
For you, this means advertisers with campaigns targeting Middle East audiences or using ME-CENTRAL-1 infrastructure should monitor AWS status and consider multi-region redundancy.
