ChatGPT Ads pilot expanding to the UK, Japan, South Korea, Brazil, and Mexico

Written by Paid Media Collective
IN BRIEF

OpenAI has confirmed that the ChatGPT Ads pilot will expand to the United Kingdom, Japan, South Korea, Brazil, and Mexico in the coming weeks. Benji Shomair (OpenAI) has flagged the geographic expansion alongside a hiring announcement for Client Partner and Customer Success Manager roles in each new market; David Dugan (OpenAI) has confirmed the same expansion with additional team-building context.

What changed

Two operating principles are restated alongside the expansion. Ads run only in Free and Go subscriptions: Plus, Pro and Enterprise users see no ads. Ads do not influence ChatGPT's answers and are clearly labelled as separate from the model's responses. The five-country expansion takes ChatGPT Ads from a US-only pilot to a six-market beta, a faster international rollout pace than Google Ads, Meta Ads, or Microsoft Advertising at equivalent product stages.

THE COLLECTIVE PERSPECTIVE

Why it matters for advertisers

For you, this means UK, Japanese, South Korean, Brazilian and Mexican advertisers should plan for ChatGPT Ads pilot eligibility in their accounts within weeks. Particularly relevant for agencies operating in multiple markets, where the rollout sequence may allow a controlled multi-market test before the US-dominant inventory pricing stabilises.
