Google begins a small test of healthcare ads in AI Mode
Google has confirmed it is running a limited test of ads in AI Mode for the healthcare vertical in the United States, targeting English-language queries. Ginny Marvin, Google Ads Product Liaison, confirmed the test in a LinkedIn exchange after Ben Goldman spotted it in response to her GML 2026 takeaways.

What changed
Healthcare had been explicitly excluded from AI Overviews ads when Google expanded that format to eleven countries in December 2025, making this a notable reversal for a sensitive category.
Marvin stated that Performance Max, AI Max with search-term matching, Shopping, and broad match are eligible to serve in AI Mode and AI Overviews, and that the first iteration is limited to creatives that do not use pinning or text disclaimers. That constraint matters for healthcare advertisers, whose creatives often rely on pinned assets to hold mandatory regulatory wording in place.
Hi Ben, Yes we are beginning a small test of ads in AI Mode for the healthcare vertical (in the US for English queries). PMax, AI Max with search terms matching, Shopping, and broad match are eligible to serve ads in AI Mode (and AI Overviews). Note that the first iteration of the test is limited to creatives that don't use pinning or text disclaimers.
Why it matters for advertisers
For you, this means regulated advertisers should treat AI Mode as an emerging ad surface and check whether their campaign types and creative are eligible under the test's restrictions. Worth auditing how much of your existing healthcare creative depends on pinning or text disclaimers, since neither is supported in this first iteration.
