Google Shopping product images: 500×500px minimum enforced from January 2027
Arpan Banerjee has flagged that Merchant Centre is already showing warnings for non-compliant product images under a new label: "Image too small for upcoming enforcement." From 31 January 2027, all product images must be at least 500×500 pixels.

What changed
Google may auto-upscale small images or substitute high-resolution versions it finds via near-duplicate matching to prevent disapproval: both visible in the Needs Attention section. Advertisers can override any auto-optimised image at any time by submitting a compliant version in their feed.
This means you should now run an audit of your Merchant Centre feed to check for image quality warnings and focus on your highest-spend products. Enforcement is nine months away and is already being applied to YouTube Shopping ads, but the warning count has already been activated.
