Google unifying tag IDs under GT- format, retiring AW- prefix
Arjun Singh has flagged that Google is consolidating its tagging ecosystem: Google Ads, GA4, and Floodlight: under a single Google Tag using the GT-XXXXXXXX format, retiring the AW-XXXXXXXX format used for Google Ads conversion tags. The unification is intended to reduce tag conflicts, improve cross-platform data consistency, and simplify container management in GTM.

What changed
Some accounts are already showing GT- tags; others are expected to migrate. No official Google announcement with a confirmed rollout timeline has been published at the time of writing.
Why it matters for advertisers
For you, this means auditing GTM containers now to identify whether GT- tags are already present in your accounts: and testing conversion tracking thoroughly after any migration to confirm event attribution is unaffected.
