Google AdSense · Status at source date: Policy update

Google removes two placement requirements for video inventory

Written by Paid Media Collective
IN BRIEF

Google's AdSense policy change log identifies 22 October as the effective date for removing two video-inventory placement requirements. The change concerns accompanying video content and sticky players; it does not remove the wider video-inventory policies.

What changed

Accompanying content no longer has to load within the body of the page. A sticky player also no longer has to begin in the main page content before moving as the user scrolls. These are specific placement changes, not permission to disregard all other implementation conditions.

For buyers and publishers, the distinction matters when discussing what inventory may qualify under Google's rules. A page layout becoming permissible does not establish that it provides the same attention, viewability or business outcome as another placement.

Publishers should compare their implementation with the current policy as a whole rather than rely on a summary of two removed requirements. Advertisers evaluating inventory should continue to distinguish policy eligibility from the suitability of a placement for their campaign objective.

For example, a video appearing in a persistent player may meet a placement rule while still requiring separate analysis of how viewers encounter it. Keep that quality assessment tied to the campaign's evidence. The date displayed here is the stated policy effective date; the original notice provides only October as its publication month.

Publishers can use the dated policy change to review affected placements, but should check the remaining video-inventory rules before changing an implementation. A requirement being relaxed does not make every placement acceptable or guarantee demand for that inventory. For buyers, the policy wording also does not establish how a particular campaign will be distributed. Evaluate the actual inventory and reporting available in the buying platform instead of assuming the change creates a new targeting or exclusion control.
