LinkedIn adds an in-network versus out-of-network Reach metric

Written by Paid Media Collective
IN BRIEF

LinkedIn has rolled out a new Reach metric that splits impressions into in-network and out-of-network, flagged by Matt Navarra. In-network reach shows the share of impressions from existing connections and followers, while out-of-network reach shows the share from people discovering a creator for the first time via feed recommendations, reshares, or search.

What changed

The metric appears in post analytics under the Discovery section.

According to LinkedIn, content that performs best out-of-network tends to be topical, substantive, and analytical, while personal updates resonate more with an existing network. The metric lets creators and brands see which posts actually expand their audience rather than echo to current followers.

THE COLLECTIVE PERSPECTIVE

Why it matters for advertisers

For you, this means anyone using LinkedIn for organic reach can now measure audience growth versus audience retention at the post level. Worth tracking which content types drive out-of-network reach and weighting your posting strategy toward those if growth is the goal.
