Meta Related Media bug routing spends to unintended ads
Barry Hott has flagged a serious bug in Meta Ads Manager: simply opening an ad to view its settings: even without making any changes: automatically queues Related Media to publish on the next save action. One account in Hott's analysis saw 96% of spend redirected to ads other than the intended one, rendering reporting unreliable.

What changed
Prevention: if the green Publish button is lit before you make changes, hit Discard; if making other changes, remove the Related Media section before publishing; always check the count of items being published. To audit past impact, run a breakdown by Creative → Related Media.
Why it matters for advertisers
For you, this means immediately auditing any account where delivery patterns have shifted unexpectedly, and adopting the check-before-publish workflow until Meta resolves the issue: this is an active bug that hasn't been acknowledged and has material budget implications.
