What changed

Regional context within DVA+

Amazon’s Geographic Insights and Activation offers pre-built brand-penetration indices in DVA+ advanced location settings. The indices compare a brand’s geographic penetration with its category without requiring an Amazon Marketing Cloud setup.

The stated coverage applies to display, video and audio campaigns in the US, Canada, Germany, Spain, France, Italy, the UK, Australia and Japan. DVA+ itself remains in closed beta ahead of its expected late-October expansion, so access to the geographic capability should be confirmed at account level rather than inferred from the market list.

Treat an index as a hypothesis

An under-penetrated area is not proof that additional advertising will produce incremental value. As an editorial recommendation, investigate product availability, fulfilment, regional demand, existing media pressure and whether the category comparison is relevant to the campaign objective before selecting a region.

A useful test would define one or more geographies, a baseline period or suitable control, budget and a success measure before activation. Record the index observed when the decision was made and any subsequent targeting change. That creates a traceable link between the planning signal and the test without treating the index as a deterministic instruction.

The absence of an Amazon Marketing Cloud setup may make access to the planning signal simpler, but it does not explain how the index is calculated or establish causality. Regional performance should be assessed from the controlled campaign evidence, with changes in availability or demand considered alongside media delivery.

THE COLLECTIVE PERSPECTIVE

Why it matters for advertisers

Pre-built geographic indices may accelerate regional exploration, but their value depends on account access and contextual validation. Penetration differences identify questions to test, not guaranteed opportunities.

What to check next

  • Confirm access to DVA+ and its advanced location settings before planning around the indices.
  • Review product availability, fulfilment, demand and existing media alongside each regional signal.
  • Turn any under-penetration finding into a documented regional test with a baseline and success measure.
