What changed

Search Engine Roundtable's report by Barry Schwartz attributes the reporting changes to an OpenAI advertiser email. It describes product-card impressions and clicks in Ads Manager, plus product-level fields in the Insights API. Individual card visibility is counted separately from the ad impressions used for billing. The report gives 20 August 2026 as the start of complete data and describes a rolling 30-day reporting window. Anu Adegbola's Search Engine Land coverage also describes the product-level reporting addition.

This account is based on those published reports; the original advertiser email was not independently accessed. The retained newsletter visual requires a separate clarification: it shows a coffee-product recommendation and a browser response containing a feed identifier. It does not show a carousel performance table. Juozas Kaziukėnas's newsletter credit belongs to the related shopping-feed coverage and should not be treated as proof that he authored OpenAI's reporting announcement.

For analysis, decide which question each metric answers. A card becoming viewable is evidence of exposure to that product card, while an ad-level impression refers to the broader advertising unit. Combining the two into one impression total would make comparisons difficult to interpret. Our suggested reporting design keeps those denominators separate and labels every rate with the level of activity used to calculate it.

THE COLLECTIVE PERSPECTIVE

Why it matters for advertisers

Product detail can help a merchandising team investigate which offers attract attention, but attention alone does not establish incremental sales. If a card receives few clicks, examine its visibility and position before concluding that the product is unattractive. Keep spend reconciliation tied to the documented billable metric rather than charging it implicitly to a count of visible cards.

What to check next

  • Label ad-level and product-card metrics separately in dashboards and reconcile spend against the billable measure.
  • Use comparable date ranges within the documented coverage window; flag missing historical data instead of treating it as zero.
  • Treat card-level patterns as prompts for investigation, then assess purchase outcomes with a suitable measurement plan before changing the product assortment.

Attribution evidence and limitations

Read the complete cached Search Engine Roundtable and Search Engine Land articles. Both identify product-level metrics; the detailed start date and window come from Barry Schwartz’s reported advertiser email, not an independently inspected email.

Original source, newsletter and contributor links retained. No relative timestamp converted into a publication date or unverified profile invented.

ChatGPT carousel reporting adds product-card visibility.

OpenAI’s advertiser briefing adds card impressions and clicks for product-feed carousel ads, as well as product-level reporting via its Insights API. Card impressions record individual product cards becoming viewable and are separate from billable ad impressions; complete data starts on 20 August with a rolling 30-day window. For you, this means a more detailed merchandising view while keeping product-card engagement separate from the impression totals used for billing.
