Crypto and complex financial product certifications move into Google Ads accounts

Written by Paid Media Collective
IN BRIEF

Google has updated its certification process to allow advertisers to apply for cryptocurrency and complex speculative financial product certifications directly inside their Google Ads account, starting May 2026. The new in-account flow covers four certification categories: cryptocurrency exchanges and software wallets, cryptocurrency hardware wallets, cryptocurrency coin trust, and complex speculative financial products.

What changed

Existing certifications and pending applications are unaffected.

As a result, the legacy Help Centre application route is being deprecated for these certifications. Advertisers must now apply through the in-account flow to obtain or renew certification. Anthony Higman has flagged the change and notes the operational consequence: certification cycles for crypto and speculative financial products can now run alongside standard policy review work, rather than living in a separate manual workflow.

THE COLLECTIVE PERSPECTIVE

Why it matters for advertisers

For you, this means that crypto and financial services agencies should update their internal certification playbooks before any client renewal is scheduled for May. Worth confirming the in-account application path is functioning before the existing Help Centre route is fully retired.
