Google email outlines mixed-media Demand Gen ads and creative-preference changes
A Google email shared by advertisers describes a gradual move to one mixed-media Demand Gen ad type. Images, videos and product feeds can be combined in the same creation workflow, while the notice also changes the creative preferences available for newly created ads.

What changed
Boris Beceric and Anthony Higman shared reports of the change. The inspected Google email comes from Higman’s post and is credited to him separately from the reporting chronology. Their posts establish an advertiser-facing notice, not a completed rollout to every account.
The email says single-media ad creation remains available until January 2027, without specifying an exact day. Existing ads continue to serve and remain editable. It would therefore be inaccurate to describe this as an immediate migration or deletion of all existing Demand Gen ads.
The creative-preference detail matters for placement control. For new ads, video-level preferences are being removed. Where no vertical video is supplied, Google may use horizontal or square video on Shorts with a blurred background. That rendering behaviour should be distinguished from a new asset uploaded by the advertiser or a guarantee that every video will be rebuilt.
Teams should review the available controls during creation and preview the resulting formats. If a campaign requires different channel choices, review the supported channel controls and ad-group structure rather than assuming an old video-level preference still applies. Keep a record of the original notice and the options visible in the account when the ad was created.
This report retains the January transition window and the distinction between new and existing ads. Google’s wider public documentation and the exact account eligibility were not established by the email screenshot. Neither the notice nor the source posts demonstrate a performance improvement from mixed-media creation.
