Netflix ad-tier viewing is scheduled to join Australia’s VOZ data

Written by Paid Media Collective
IN BRIEF

OzTAM and Netflix have agreed to bring Netflix’s ad-supported viewing into Australia’s VOZ measurement database, according to Luis Rijo’s 2 November report. The planned second stage starts on 1 February 2027 and uses a monthly reporting cadence.

What changed

The first stage already separates Netflix’s ad-supported and ad-free tiers in OzTAM’s quarterly Streamscape figures. For the third quarter of 2026, the report gives the ad tier 5.1% of streaming time on Australian connected TVs and the ad-free tier 14.6%. Those figures are shares of viewing time, not campaign reach or counts of ad impressions.

The next stage concerns content-level viewing in VOZ, alongside broadcast and broadcaster video-on-demand data. Netflix’s monthly release will cover the preceding month; existing broadcast and BVOD data will continue to arrive daily. Sharing a database therefore does not mean that every service’s data becomes available at the same time.

For media planners, that timing affects when a cross-service comparison can be completed. A January campaign’s broadcaster information may be available before its Netflix viewing data. Plan the reporting timetable accordingly, rather than treating an incomplete monthly comparison as evidence that viewing was absent.

The report does not establish how every co-viewing or demographic issue is handled, and the agreement does not by itself prove that content viewing is the same as advertising exposure. The published Streamscape split is also limited to connected TVs; it should not be relabelled as an all-device audience figure.

This article retains PPC Land as the reporting source and Rijo as First contributor. The date is the agreement’s reported announcement date, with February 2027 clearly identified as a future implementation stage. The development can inform Australian video planning without requiring advertisers to stop using Netflix in the intervening period.
