What changed

Google’s financial products policy update requires advertisers of complex speculative financial products targeting Chile or Denmark to hold local authorisation and Google certification. The relevant regulators are Chile’s Financial Market Commission and Denmark’s Finanstilsynet.

Timing and suspension notice

The change takes effect in October 2026, but the sources do not give a specific day. Google says it will provide at least seven days’ warning before any suspension. That notice period should not be mistaken for an additional compliance window guaranteed from the beginning of October or a substitute for the required authorisation and certification.

Because the precise enforcement date is unresolved, advertisers should not schedule evidence collection around an assumed end-of-month deadline. The defensible date statement is limited to October 2026.

Determine which activity is in scope

Identify campaigns targeting Chile or Denmark and assess whether the promoted products fall within Google’s complex speculative financial-products category. Then map the advertiser entity to the relevant local regulator record and Google certification.

Editorial suggestion: test scope at the combination of entity, product and market. An authorised group company should not automatically be treated as evidence for a different advertiser entity, and authorisation in one jurisdiction should not be assumed to satisfy the stated local requirement in the other. Where classification is uncertain, obtain an appropriate internal compliance or legal assessment rather than inferring status from campaign language.

Evidence before delivery risk

Maintain current records of local authorisation and Google certification for each relevant entity. Compare the entity named in the regulator record with the advertiser and destination, and note any products or markets excluded from that authorisation.

Review agency-managed accounts with the advertiser, since platform access does not itself establish the client’s regulatory status. The operational objective is to identify certification gaps before they interrupt delivery, without presenting an advertising review as legal advice.

THE COLLECTIVE PERSPECTIVE

Why it matters for advertisers

An authorisation or certification gap can stop delivery in two regulated markets. The lack of a precise October date makes early entity, product and market checks especially important.

What to check next

  • Identify campaigns targeting Chile or Denmark that may promote complex speculative financial products.
  • Verify the correct advertiser entity against the relevant local regulator’s authorisation record.
  • Confirm Google certification and retain evidence before October enforcement begins.
