Google documents a limited dealership inventory pilot in Business Profiles

Written by Paid Media Collective
IN BRIEF

Google’s Business Profile help page describes a limited pilot for showing car-dealership sales inventory. Barry Schwartz reported the documentation on 5 November, identifying a Cars for Sale control inside Edit Profile for participating partners.

What changed

The official guidance says customers can search, sort and learn about available cars from a dealership’s profile. Pilot partners can choose whether to display inventory and select preferred data providers. Google also offers an interest form, which is an application route rather than evidence that any dealership can activate the feature immediately.

This concerns a Business Profile surface. It should not be conflated with sponsored Vehicle ads, and similar car-listing experiences existed before this particular pilot wording. The news is the current limited pilot and its documented management path, not the invention of displaying vehicle inventory on Google.

A dealer or agency reviewing the feature should first establish whether its profile is included. Then check which provider supplies the inventory, whether sold vehicles disappear as expected and whether the details match the dealership’s own stock. A search result that looks like an advertisement does not by itself establish that a paid campaign supplied it.

Keep the inventory review separate from the advertising account review. Changing a profile’s preferred data provider could affect the information shoppers encounter without being a bid or campaign-setting change. Teams responsible for local listings and vehicle advertising should therefore agree who checks stock accuracy and who owns corrections.

The article uses 5 November as the reporting date. The help page’s exact revision time and the pilot’s original start date were not established.
