What changed

Google’s announcement places Google Display Network buying inside Demand Gen while retaining the option to serve only on GDN. The company describes a transition running into 2027. The current help page uses phased and forthcoming milestones, so the historical timeline image should be read as the plan published at the time, not an unconditional deadline for every account.

The primary migration guidance contains practical details beyond the campaign name. It says migrated campaigns cannot be reverted to the old Display campaign type. It also warns that the new campaign does not recognise budget already spent earlier on the migration day. Teams should understand those consequences before choosing a migration time, and review the current feature-compatibility list for their specific setup.

Separate the campaign transition from a decision to expand onto other channels. Google says migrated campaigns initially include GDN, with additional channels available afterwards. If the objective is continuity, document the existing audience, assets, exclusions and measurement before changing the inventory mix. If the objective is broader reach, describe that as a separate test so its effects are not attributed solely to the migration.

THE COLLECTIVE PERSPECTIVE

Why it matters for advertisers

A new campaign type can change both the management workflow and the assumptions behind a performance comparison. Create a migration record that connects the old and new campaigns, notes the timing and lists settings that required adjustment. Review spend on the transition day and allow for changes in delivery before judging results. Google’s announcement includes advertiser performance examples, but these should not be treated as a forecast for an individual Display account.

What to check next

  • Read the current migration guidance and check compatibility for each campaign.
  • Plan the transition with the same-day budget behaviour and non-reversible change in mind.
  • Verify GDN channel settings and compare results using a saved campaign baseline.

Attribution evidence and limitations

Read Google’s full announcement and current migration guidance, and viewed both historical images. Preserved the existing explicit-credit review for Emirhan Bayutmuş as screenshot source without inventing a profile or first-reporting priority. Added Google as the announcement publisher; no individual byline is present. Distinguished the historical timeline from current phased wording.

Original source links and verified profile links are retained. A missing profile remains unresolved rather than being inferred from a name match.

Viewed the Google timeline marked subject to change and the separate interface notice explicitly labelled Source: Emirhan Bayutmuş. Preserved that visual-source credit. The original post URL and verified profile for Emirhan remain unresolved.

Google Display campaigns move into Demand Gen (Reminder)

As a reminder, Google is officially consolidating standalone Display campaigns into Demand Gen, which now spans YouTube, Discover, Gmail, Maps, and the Google Display Network. Channel controls let you adjust delivery across those surfaces, and a Display-only option remains during the transition, which Google expects to complete by 2027. For you, this means your Display buys will run through Demand Gen, so learn the channel controls now rather than at forced migration.
