AI Max makes branded and unbranded options more explicit
Bia Camargo’s account observation shows clearer options for all, branded and unbranded searches in AI Max. This is a change in the interface she observed, not evidence that a new underlying targeting capability has reached every account.

What changed
Inspect the actual configuration when comparing branded and non-branded results; a clearer label alone does not demonstrate stronger control or incremental demand.
Before applying a branded or unbranded option, record the current query mix and any explicit brand restrictions. Compare the resulting traffic with the intended acquisition objective and qualified outcomes. An account screenshot establishes what one advertiser saw; it does not show that the same controls or defaults exist in every account.
A useful baseline includes the proportion of searches naming the advertiser, searches for competing brands and genuinely generic demand. Those groups can have different intent and conversion economics. Comparing an aggregate return before and after a brand-setting change can conceal a large redistribution between them, especially when the business already attracts substantial branded demand through other channels.
For a campaign intended to acquire new customers, agree how existing demand will be treated before using the new option. Review brand terms together with customer status where reliable data exists, and check whether another campaign already serves the same purpose. This is a planning exercise, not a claim that the observed interface proves incremental reach. Preserve the specific account context because a control seen in one account may differ from the controls offered elsewhere.
Why it matters for advertisers
Brand treatment changes the interpretation of campaign results. A shift towards people already looking for the business can improve reported efficiency without answering whether the campaign reached additional customers.
