What changed

Google Merchant Center documents an optional mileage_allowance sub-attribute for vehicle instalment listings in Germany. It communicates the mileage cap associated with a finance or lease offer and should match the conditions attached to the advertised payment.

Reference timing, not a Week 40 launch

Emmanuel Flossie explained the field in an article dated 30 September. Merchant API release notes had already recorded it in the week of 8 September. Those dates concern different publications: the earlier week records the field in release notes, while 30 September is the date of the explanatory article.

The item should therefore be framed as a feed specification reference rather than a new Week 40 capability. The evidence does not establish a more precise first-availability date.

Why the value needs offer-level sourcing

A mileage allowance materially qualifies a vehicle finance or lease payment. A lower displayed payment may depend on a particular annual or contractual mileage cap, so a generic dealer default can misrepresent the associated terms if it is applied across unlike offers.

Editorial suggestion: trace every proposed value to the offer-level finance record rather than inferring it from vehicle model, dealer or campaign. Compare the allowance, payment, term and any other relevant conditions as one unit. If the source record is ambiguous, resolve it before publishing the sub-attribute.

The documentation identifies the field as optional. Its optional status should not be converted into assumptions about display frequency, enforcement or how Google handles every missing value.

Controlled feed change

Check the current specification before changing German dealer feeds. Start with a limited sample, preserve the source terms behind each value and inspect downstream diagnostics or presentation where available. Expand only after confirming that the mapping behaves as intended.

Do not extrapolate the Germany-specific reference to vehicle listings in other countries without supporting documentation. Similarly, the field’s existence does not show that every German vehicle offer uses instalment or lease terms requiring it.

THE COLLECTIVE PERSPECTIVE

Why it matters for advertisers

An incorrect mileage allowance can detach an advertised payment from its underlying finance conditions. Offer-level sourcing helps keep structured listing data aligned with the actual lease or finance proposition.

What to check next

  • Check the current Merchant Center specification before editing German vehicle instalment feeds.
  • Map each mileage allowance to the exact finance or lease record supporting the advertised payment.
  • Validate a small sample against dealer source data and downstream diagnostics before wider deployment.
