Google documents promotion tags for feed-based Demand Gen video

Written by Paid Media Collective
IN BRIEF

Google’s Demand Gen guidance says promotion assets can display discount tags on YouTube Shorts and in-stream formats when a campaign uses a Merchant Center product feed. Hana Kobzová highlighted the wording in PPC News Feed on 3 November.

What changed

The combination of promotion assets and a product feed is central to the documented scope. The update should not be read as a statement that any text discount can be attached to every video campaign. Advertisers need to review the promotion-asset requirements and the actual setup available in their account.

The source screenshot highlights the relevant sentence in Google’s campaign guidance. It is documentation evidence, not a screenshot showing a particular retailer’s live ad. The help page does not establish the exact date this serving capability first became available, so the article uses the reporting date and leaves the rollout date unconfirmed.

The practical consequence is that an offer can appear in the viewing experience alongside product-led creative. Review the promotion’s dates and terms against the destination and product feed before using it. A discount tag should describe an offer the customer can actually obtain; a visually correct tag does not establish that the underlying promotion is valid.

During a seasonal campaign, check how the promotion appears in available previews and whether the feed remains eligible. Keep the promotion review separate from a general video-quality check. An asset can remain usable after an offer expires, while the promotion attached to it may need a different end date.

This is an operational documentation update. It does not establish a universal account rollout, a new discounting requirement or a measured improvement in conversion rate. Google remains the source for the capability, while Kobzová receives credit for identifying the wording in the coverage reviewed.
